Community Organiser (Migrant Communities)
The Selby Trust has been successful in securing funding under the Connecting Communities Programme led by Haringey Council.
We are looking for an experienced, well-organised and capable Community Organiser that can engage effectively with migrant communities. You will identify key leaders amongst newer migrant communities and support them to establish their own community groups or integrate into existing services offered within the broader local voluntary sector in Haringey.
You will have strong skills and experience in facilitating, planning, organising and running community engagement and community development activity programmes. You will be experienced in building the capacity of small grassroots organisations at the initial inception stage, in response to gaps in services and identified community needs not met effectively elsewhere.
You will be able to document your work effectively and in a timely fashion through case studies, newsletters and provide impact and output reports, and work within the financial processes of the organisation. Your work will have an important impact locally and you will be a good networker and team player, who gets back to people and ensures there is a follow-through into mainstream Council services for housing, jobs, and other advice and support.
You will be the strong people person who can co-ordinate and inspire others to prepare themselves well for running their own projects, being proactive in ensuring that they are well-prepared for the future – in line with migrant needs and interests.
Migrant communities engaged on the project will be drawn include those from Latin American communities, Middle Eastern, people from the African diaspora and Europeans access to the project remains open for any new migrants who have arrived in Haringey in the last 10 years.
