Event Description:

Workshop Overview

Community Organising is the work of bringing people together to take action around their common concerns and overcome social injustice. Community Organisers reach out and listen, connect and motivate people to build their collective power.

This interactive and engaging 7-hour course will explore the idea of power. Using creative collaborative activities, and drawing on personal experiences, we will consider different types and effects of power and look at the ways in which people can build power together through Community Organising.

This training, although open to all, follows on from the "Introduction to Community Organising" workshops that we have delivered in the past and most recently in January 2019. The training is ideal if you’re new to the community organising approach, or if you just want a refresher on Building Power.

During this course you will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of power
  • Explore your personal power and ability to act
  • Think about what it means to organise for change
  • Start to identify the root causes of social injustice
  • Learn how to build power with others through Community Organising.

This training is free. It is run by The Selby Trust Social Action Hub and supported by Community Organisers Ltd.

This course is approved as quality training provision by Certa and as Professional Development by CPD. Certification for this can be achieved through completion of the full 1 day course.

There are no geographical restrictions and everyone is welcome to attend.

Lunch and refreshments will be served during this workshop but please arrive for 9.30 am for refreshments so that we can make a prompt start
