An Introduction to Community Organising

An Introduction to Community Organising, Principles & Organising Practice,

1 Day Workshop

Workshop overview

Community Organising is the work of bringing people together to take action around their common concerns and overcome social injustice. Community Organisers reach out and listen, connect and motivate people to build their collective power.

This one day training course introduces the core foundations of community organising – genuine, effective listening which sparks dialogue and explores motivations, an analysis of power in community and how to build it, and an exploration of how to organise and motivate people to take effective action together to address common concerns.

The course aims to achieve these learning outcomes:

  • To understand the importance of listening to build relationships
  • To begin to explore power and power dynamics in communities
  • To appreciate how to motivate people to take action
  • To plan your next steps and actions in community organising

This training is free. It is run by The Selby Trust Social Action Hub and supported by Community Organisers Ltd.

This course is approved as quality training provision by Certa and as Professional Development by CPD. Certification for this can be achieved through completion of a short “learning log” at the end of the course.
